View Full Version : If you could see one sporting event in person - what would it be?

Self explanitory.
This would apply to an entire event - whether it be 1 day (such as Indy 500), or the Masters (4 day event) - or even the Tour de France (~21 days).
I've got 2:
1) It would be interesting to see the Indy 500. I like the high levels of kinetic energy, noise, and spectacular crashes. I also want to hear Jim Neighbors sing "Back home in Indiana". :)
2) I would like to sit at an outdoor cafe (assuming the weather is warm), and watch Will, Eric, Jon, and Paul run a marathon. I'd root them on! (No - you will never get me to run such a crazy thing)

Ohhh if I had to choose just one I would say either an F1 racing tour, like the ones they have through cities in France and in Monaco. Or I would love to see a World Rally Challenge tour. They're where the 4wd turbocharged sedans and coups got their start. Racing through the woods/snow/city streets would be awesome!

Car racing is pretty cool. I can't imagine being there in person would be very fun, you wait for 30 minutes to see the car go by in 1 second? Hopefully it is more spectator friendly than I imagine.
I think that the gladiator fights in Rome would have been cool to see.

F1 would be great. I'm a hibernating huge fan. Since they don't show F1/Indy racing on TV much (without cable), I'm not an active fan, but I'm all over it when it's on!
It's a perfect match of technology, driving skill, and strategy.

So...you aren't the only one who thinks Russell Crowe is hot in leather... :)
{I hope this response doesn't generate another thread... :rolleyes:}

I would really enjoy seeing an eco-friendly car/boat/plane race that uses one vehicle that can race around the world underwater as a submersible boat and on the water as a sailboat and on-land as well and in the air without burning any fossil fuel (or a set tiny amount). They would have to go around the world on a defined course using all transportations methods in equal amounts.
I guess it would have to be an eco-friendly transformer of sorts. Battery, solar, and human-powered I suppose. yeah, that would be a great race to watch!

SuperBowl!
Looks like they put on an amazing show... who wants to go with me in 2009?
I guess if there was one sport I'd like to participate in and win and dominate it might be tennis... that's a very physical and rewarding sport. Or curling.

In response to Jon's suggestion, I'll change mine:
I would like to see a huge race of 50+ rusty old supertankers ladden with oil drilled from pristine Alaskan refuge areas and Yellowstone National Park.
The huge supertankers would be sponsored by many companie such as Halliburton, Exxon, and Wal-mart.
Besides having victory obtained by crossing the finish line first, other points could be obtained such as largest oil spill/slick, most polluting engines, or most whale/dolphins speared along the way...
Victory prize would include $50 million to the company CEO, and corporate tax cuts (gleened from cuts in medicare, food stamps, and inner-city school districts)
